Craft Homes: Fully off grid passive home

Description

Toby Tisley, a prominent builder specialising in high-end sustainable passive solar homes, embarked on constructing his own family residence. Located on a remote rural site near Ruapuke, his vision was to create an energy-efficient home that would operate independently of the grid.

Toby sought the expertise of Stendy Solar. Their task was to design a custom off-grid solar power system capable of meeting the energy demands of Toby’s house and other structures on the property. The result was a comprehensive system AC DC coupled off grid system creating their own independent micro grid.

Key Features of the Off-Grid System

DC-Coupled Solar on the Shed Roof: Stendy Solar strategically installed solar panels on the shed roof, harnessing sunlight with a DC charge controller. This charge controller charges the batteries even if the system shuts down providing emergency resilience.
AC-Coupled Solar on the House Roof: The house roof has solar panels managed by an AC-coupled inverter, this inverter provides power to their micro grid and can power their loads when the sun is shining, while reducing battery cycling which in turn increases the life span off the batteries

Micro Hydro Turbine: In addition to solar, the system incorporates a micro hydro turbine. This innovative feature taps into the natural flow of water, generating electricity day and night.
